Jacint Gil Rodríguez (GIL architecture)
Description
The proposed intervention consists of demolishing the existing paving system and executing a new pavement with the following characteristics:
-
New waterproofing with a PVC membrane. Prior to this, a treatment will be carried out to repair any cracks found in the current slab of the outdoor courtyard.
-
Leveling with extruded polystyrene insulation boards.
-
A concrete compression layer, which will serve as the base for the leveling layer, allowing the creation of slopes to direct water towards the perimeters where the new drainage will be located. This drainage consists of a concealed channel made of polymer concrete, connected to the existing drains.
-
New pavement: a multilayer system for sports use made of acrylic resins, with the color distribution according to the layout plans. Regarding materials, the selection criteria are ease of cleaning and durability.
The proposal is complemented by the installation of two canopies that will provide shade and rain protection at both ends of the open courtyard. These canopies are formed by a lightweight structure covered with ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene) fabric, a high-tech material known for its transparency, lightness, and durability. The installation was carried out by IASO, a company specialized in architectural textile systems, and coordinated by Progec, the project’s main contractor.
The use of ETFE has made it possible to maintain a clean and transparent appearance, integrated within the existing context while being technically efficient. The result is a more comfortable, brighter, and longer-lasting space, placing technology at the service of school architecture.
